The Interesting Facts About Softub
What comes to mind when someone mentions Softub? Surely, if you have never heard of it...maybe a bath or hot tub of some kind, but those in the know would relate it to a hot tub, soothing water, relaxation, comfort and even portability would be on the list. Would eco-friendly, less maintenance and more reasonably priced than a hard tub also be included? What about health benefits and tax deductions for those with afflictions? Well they should! Let’s learn why Softub has emerged as one of the largest hot tub suppliers in the World with their unique product in the hot tub market today.
The History
Softub began in 1985 by the founder Tom Thornbury. Originally,
Tom and a few of his Engineer contacts created this fascinating
product in their garage after looking at all the hot tubs on the
market, reviewing their good points and their bad points and
engineering what Inc Magazine recognized on the Inc 500 List
of fastest growing companies in consecutive years. These
Engineers set out to form a portable, lightweight, and efficient
tub without the high cost in maintenance and electricity like a
regular hot tub and succeeded beyond expectations. The
layered foam shell Softub uses, serves as an insulation source
which retains heat better than acrylic, but also serves as a
durable, lightweight structure for ease of placement. Over time
and after various forms of research, Softub would become the
“greenest” hot tub in the world and one of the top selling hot tubs
in the industry.
Mr. Tom Thornbury
Softub’s first show debut occurred in 1987 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The unique hot tub drew lots of attention from prospects everywhere. Within five years, the company made the INC 500 list of fastest growing companies and remained in the top spot for three consecutive years. Since then, it has made appearances in magazines, television, and newspapers across the United States. Softub was even displayed at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia. They have been awarded the Best Buy Award by the Consumers’ Digest and recently listed as the most energy efficient hot tub on the market as outlined in The Homeowners Guide to Renewable Energy by Dan Chiras.
Dan Chiras is a respected educator and the author of 29 books on residential renewable energy and green building including Power from the Sun and Power from the Wind. He has studied and worked with renewable energy and energy efficiency for over 30 years. Dan is the director of and lead instructor at The Evergreen Institute's Center for Renewable Energy and Green Building (www.evergreeninstitute.org), where he teaches workshops on energy efficiency, solar electricity, solar hot water, small wind energy, green building, natural plasters, and natural building. Today, Softub is still coined as the most unique, efficient, and portable hot tub on the market.
The Product Info
Currently, Softub offers three different models, seven exterior colors, and three interior color options. The small tub, or T-140 seats one to two people. The T-220 provides room for four people, and the T-300 can occupy up to six. The tubs are covered with a marine grade vinyl skin, which makes cleaning and maintenance simple
and wil withstand any extreme weather climate, suitable
for both indoors and out, on land, and even on boats.
The vinyl is made from a marine-grade product called
Leathertex. Leathertex has Mold, Mildew and UV
Protection built into the material, allowing the tub to last
longer than most hot tubs without fading, cracking, or
peeling. These tubs also include LED lighting to
enhance a relaxing atmosphere.
Installing a Softub is simple. First, roll the tub into
desired place, either indoors or out. The tubs can fit through a standard doorway, so no special equipment is needed and no walls have to be removed. It sits on any flat surface. The only tool required is a screwdriver to tighten the hoses to the side of the tub. Then, fill the tub with water from a garden hose. Finally, plug it into any 110v outlet, use a small amount of Soft-Chlor, and you can use after the initial heat period.
The Benefits
Hydrotherapy serves as a great benefit for overall health. Softub is a reliable source in providing relief from occasional aches and pains like headaches, muscle aches, tension, and stress, to chronic conditions like diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia, back, knee and hip problems and poor blood circulation. Weight loss is even a win-win with hydrotherapy. Soaking in a hot tub helps open the skin’s pores to release toxins and excess water weight from your body.
Who would have thought you could lose weight using a hot tub?
Along with the health benefits, Softub has the economically friendly features. Softubs require only a power outlet with 110 volts to allow the tub to function. Softub also uses a heat recovery system, using heat from the motor to heat the water. Heater failure is the number one maintenance issue with hard tubs, so not only does Softub not use an in-line heater, but as the water heats off the motor, it also serves to cool the motor as it passes around the motor. As mentioned before, the closed cell foam construction also helps keep the heat in, allowing for a low use in electricity up to five times less than that of conventional hot tubs. Now that’s a budget friendly hot tub!
